Night Six

Risi-Betschart add Bremen to score their third win as a pair this season. and their unbelievable thirty-fourth as a duo.

Night Five

With only the final night left to race, hometown rider Andreas Kappes has moved back into the lead putting all and sundry on notice that he intends to equal Rene Pijnen's seven wins record.

Three pairs share the Zero Lap and although Kappes-Beikirch have 22 points in hand over Risi-Betschart, the final night should see some agressive riding as the main contenders strive for the top spot on the podium.

Night Four

Whilst the points spread for the leading three pairs is relatively small, the Crusading German duo, Andreas Kappes-Andreas Beikirch, have been relegated to third spot from the leading position they held solidly for the first half of the race.

Kappes is on a mission to get his seventh win in this event and tie Rene Pijnen's long standing record so do not count him out yet with two spectacular days to come.

But the prolific Swiss pair, Bruno Risi-Kurt Betschart, took the 200 points bonus lap annd just kept going to gain another lap on the former leaders. Following the action closely and alert to what was happening were Dynamic Dutch Duo, Slippens-Stam, who now have slipped into second spot behind Bruno Risi-Kurt Betschart as the only other team on the Zero Lap.

Nothstein is still in need of education. Despite his winning both time-trials (Flying Lap and 3 Laps/500m) and grabbing second in the Keirin last night, thereby keeping his team ahead on points he did nothing to improve the everall lap situation upon which the race is judged

Scott McGrory, plagued by stomach problems, has pulled out of the race, but Belgian Matthew Gilmore, his partner. is still circling the track and available as a replacement if needed.

Night Three

The podium is pretty well established at the half way point in this first 2004 Six-Day event. All that remains to be seen is the actual final placings.

With two pairs on the Zero lap (Andreas Kappes-Andreas Beikirch and Danny Stam-Robert Slippens) and Bruno Risi-Kurt Betschart a lap back but nudging the bonus lap to rival the leaders with 193 points, it would seem to be all over bar the shouting in Bremen.

Tom Steels, partnered by Gerd Dörich, is in ninth spot and nine laps down, and whilst this is a long way off the podium, it is a more than creditable maiden performance especially on a track that is six trips to the klick or 167 meters approximately.

Nothestein and his partner Jimmi Madsen continue to disappoint, and whilst Nothstein blasted the old lap record with an 8.75 lap a couple of nights ago, someone should tell him that this event isn't about finding the fastest lap; it's about not losing them.

Night Two

Madsen-Nothstein who topped the rankings after night one have totally collapsed. They are now two laps down on the new leaders, Germany's Andreas Kappes-Andreas Beikirch who are now the only pair on the Zero lap.

Whilst Madsen-Nothstein are still ahead on points they are two laps down and compounding their plight, they have already earned the bonus lap as they are now at 108 points. Nothstein's performances this year have been lackluster at best and if he continues losing laps the way he has so far this year, he will be lucky indeed to find anyone to partner him next year. Possibly it's time for him to retire gracefully.

Kappes, however, is supermotivated this year. He is in position to equal Rene Pijnen's seven wins in the event. And riding on his ''home'' track, the 38 year old Bremen native would love to even up the score 15 years after winning his first Bremen Six especially as this is the last event in the Stadthalle and possibly the last Bremen Six too.
