The prestigeous Spanish Publication, AS, breaks the news of more possible doping cases at the 2004 Vuelta a Espana. The same day Tyler Hamilton (USA - Phonak) was found Positive for Blood Doping two sport directors assured, off the record, that there were six other Positives besides the Hamilton case. The culprits, if such they be, involve Spanish riders, some of whom are alleged to be highly placed in the overall General Classification, although no names have been mentioned as yet. The Phonak team has said in a statement that the Vuelta a Espana B test was positive. And a second ``B'' Sample taken at the Vuelta is rumoured to be Positive. However, a B test carried out by the International Olympic Committee after Hamilton won the time trial gold in Athens "will turn out negative," Phonak said. Phonak did not say if they had received an official negative report from the IOC. Hamilton's team suspended the American on Wednesday, but Phonak said on Thursday he would remain on the team until "clarity" was achieved. (Source: EuroSport)EuroSport

Aitor Gonzalez has put his foot down in the Vuelta this morning. Likewise Michael Barry (USPS). Gonzalez has gasto-enteritis, a malady which seems to have targetted the Vuelta this year. Spanish newspaper Marca reports that 2002 Vuelta champ Aitor Gonzalez is looking for a new squad for 2005.
