Pro-Tour Derailed?
Sat Sep 25 10:49:54 2004
As reported by Eurosport commentating team David Harmon and Sean Kelly, a wrench appears to have been thrown into the UCI's grand plans for next year's Pro Tour, a sort of Super League of cycling designed to cajole the biggest teams and riders to race all season long and not just the highest profile races. The three major tours (Italy, France and Spain) have reportedly refused to endorse the Pro Tour. With their combined media and money clout, that could spell The End for any Pro Tour ambitions... US Worlds Squad
Sat Sep 25 09:46:28 2004
With Tyler Hamilton, at least temporarily, Hors Combat after three Positive Dope Test and a Fourth test being impossible to perform due to bungling by laboratory staff, and six time TourFrance winner, Lance Armstrong, declining to participate, it will be a watered down squad that the US sends to Verona. Nevertheless, Fassa Bortolo's Guido Trenti will be there, as will Tom Danielson who will ride the time trial on September 30 along with with US Postal's Dave Zabriskie. Other riders expected to be on the start line are: U.S. champion Jason McCartney (Health Net), Chris Horner (Webcor), Kirk O'Bee and Chris Baldwin (Navigators), and Roberto Heras' team-mate Christian Vande Velde (Liberty Seguros). Remarkable is the omission of Fred Rodriguez, the only rider besides Hamilton and Armstrong, to have had any International success this year. (Source: SixDay Staff)Offical Worlds Site (Multilingual)
