Speicher: First French World Champion
(EDT in North America)

The Worlds Road Race was first contested in 1927 when Alfredo Binda led home Costante Girardengo
and Domenico Piemontesi for an all Italian podium.

French riders were always in the running in the early years of the Worlds but it wasn't until 1933
that they got onto the podium with Georges Speicher as Gold Medallist and Antonin Magne with Silver.

Magne went on to win Gold in 1936.
