Euskaltel-Euskadi to ride París-Tours
Posted Fri Oct 8 09:41:18 2004 (EDT in North America)

Usually remaining close to home, the Basque Euskaltel-Euskadi squad will be on the start line of the
penultimate event in the current World Cup Series, Paris-Tours, on Sunday.

According to team manager, Julián Gorospe, the team will probably include Mikel Artetxe,
Koldo Fernández de Larrea, Markel Irizar, Iñaki Isasi, Samuel Sánchez, Aitor Sillóniz, Aketza Peña
and Josu Sillóniz.

The trip ``abroad'' is seen by some observers to be a late season effort on behalf of
Euskaltel-Euskadi to boost the UCI rankings of both the team and the riders individually.

Currently the best placed Euskaltel-Euskadi rider is Iban Mayo way back in 23rd. spot whilst the
team languishes at 15th in the UCI rankings.

Museeuw - 4 Year Suspension
Posted Fri Oct 8 09:19:26 2004 (EDT in North America)

Belgium's prolific Classics Winner, Johan Musseuw, was suspended for doping for four years today
of which two years are retoactive and so the effective suspension is of two years duration.

Museeuw has retired from racing, but the suspension will impact negatively upon his ability to
find other bicycle racing related employment.

Also handed the same sentence of 4 years were Jo Planckaert and Chris Peers, both of whom, at
the time of the suspension, were actively racing.

In raids on the homes of the three riders in the year 2003, Belgian police allege that they found
substances used normally for sporting performance enhancement contrary to the rules of the LRVB,
the Belgian cycling governing body.
