Ullrich cool on Armstrong 2005 Tour Plans
Tue, 9 Nov 2004 10:44:58 -0500
Former Tour de France champion Jan Ullrich says he does not care whether six-time winner Lance Armstrong rides in the 2005 Tour. "It's all the same to me whether Armstrong comes or not," said T-Mobile rider Ullrich, who has finished second to Armstrong three times. "If you want to win you have to ride faster than the rest." Ullrich also hit out at the decision to cut the number of time trials in next year's Tour by one to three. Last week Armstrong said he had not decided if he was going to race in the 2005 Tour. However, unlike Ullrich, T-Mobile team manager Walter Godefroot believes Armstrong will be back to try and extend his record of victories to seven. "I'm not convinced that Lance Armstrong will miss the Tour in 2005," said Godefroot. "He's only saying things like that because right now he doesn't want to heap any pressure on himself."
