34 year-old World hour record falls

Today (Thursday) in Alkmaar, Holland, Matthé Pronk raised the World one hour
Derny record behind gangmakker Joop Zijlaard.

Pronk covered 66.114 km in the hour, besting by 1.568 km the ride of Belgium's Theo Verschueren
which has stood since 1970.

The Derny paced record has been largely ignored since the early 1950's when it was a popular target
after the record was first set by Jean Bobet in 1953.

But will miss Manchester leg of the track World Cup

Britain's triple Olympic medallist Bradley Wiggins will lead the Credit Agricole team at the
Tour Down Under in January.

The commitment means the 24-year-old will not be able to compete in the Manchester leg of the
track World Cup.

Wiggins won gold in the individual pursuit, silver in the team pursuit and bronze in the Madison
event in Athens.

The Tour Down Under, the southern hemisphere's highest-ranking race, takes place from 18-23 January.

Australian Junior cycling champion banned
Thu Nov 18 15:53:54 2004

Triple world junior cycling champion Shane Perkins
has been banned by the Australian Court of Arbitration
for six months for using a banned substance.

The court heard Perkins, 18, had inadvertently used a stimulant at the junior world championships in
Los Angeles in the United States in July.

Cycling Australia said Perkins tested positive after using a nasal inhaler of the same brand he used
in Australia.

The American version contained the banned substance methamphetamine.

"Perkins tested positive to the substance after his gold medal ride in the keirin, a medal which is
now expected to be taken from him," said Cycling Australia.

"However in a subsequent test two days later his result was negative."

The teenager, who won gold in the men's sprint, keirin and team sprint at the junior world championships,
began his suspension on 16 November.
